Responsible Gambling

Nothing on this site changes the underlying arithmetic: over time the house edge wins, and every strategy guide we publish is about losing slower and choosing better, not about beating the games. That makes limits the most valuable tool on any page we write. Decide what you can spend before you deposit, treat the amount as the price of entertainment, and set the cap in the cashier before the first stake rather than after the first bad session.

The tools that work

Deposit limits cap what you can load into an account per day, week or month, and a genuine one cannot be raised for a cooling-off period. Time-outs lock you out for a stretch you choose, from a day to several weeks. Self-exclusion closes the account for at least six months. On UK-licensed sites, GamStop ties all of this together: one registration excludes you from every Gambling Commission operator at once, and the exclusion cannot be undone early.

The offshore caveat

Most brands covered on this site are not UK-licensed, so GamStop does not reach them and the regulator’s enforcement is thinner. Responsible gambling tools usually exist on offshore sites, deposit limits and cool-offs among them, but the terms vary and enforcement depends on the operator’s own staff. Before depositing anywhere offshore, read its responsible gambling page, check whether a limit can be raised instantly, and treat the answer as part of the licence assessment we publish.

If a site will not let you set a limit before depositing, or makes raising one instant while lowering one takes days, that is a finding worth taking seriously and worth reporting to us. Bank-level controls help where operator tools are weak: most UK banks let you block gambling transactions on your card, and that block sits outside the casino’s reach entirely. Neither option replaces the decision to stop, but both make the decision easier to hold.

If gambling has stopped being a choice and started being a need, use the helpline link in the footer of every page. The line is free, confidential and open every hour of the year, and talking to it costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Our guides can explain a wagering requirement; they cannot do the one thing that matters when play has tipped over, and we would rather lose the reader than pretend otherwise.
